The Miracle Worker The Attic Theatre Playing until 22 March I have to admit that I have a soft spot for The Miracle Worker. Although I have not seen a production of William Gibson’s 1960 play before I did see the 1962 film. Brought up as a single child in a repressive family where film …

Theatre Highlights 2024 2024 was a very good year for theatre in Stratford. The most important event was the arrival of the two new artistic directors of the RSC, Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey bringing with them lungsful of fresh air which quickly permeated the organisation. There were some innovative and creative choices of play …
This show is real fun. Make sure you see it.
The Merry Wives of Windsor Royal Shakespeare Theatre After the RSC’s recent production of Loves Labours Lost I went to this production with some trepidation rather fearing that it might be set in a far eastern village with a retired Sumo wrestler as Sir John Falstaff, a casino as the Garter Inn and Sir Hugh …

Dracula The Attic Theatre 19 October – 5 November If you’ve read Bram Stoker’s 400 page novel you will realise straight away what a herculean task it is to turn this sprawling work into a playscript. There is no narrator, omniscient or not, but letters, diaries, transcripts of phonographs and multiple points of view. It’s …
The Merchant of Venice 1936 Swan Theatre It seems a long time now since I’ve been able to say that I think something at the RSC is a must see production, but this one is. It’s stunning. Perhaps it’s the result of the RSC working in collaboration with Trafalgar Theatre Productions and Eilene Davidson Productions. …
Macbeth Royal Shakespeare Theatre This production of Macbeth hasn’t done well, mainly because the reviews when it opened were poor. I have seen it twice, the second time a month after I saw it in preview. They have made some changes, possibly in response to some of the criticism in the reviews. I still think …
